What to Wear for a Photo Shoot?

What should I wear for my photoshoot?
 

Plentiful resources recommend color schemes (like here; a color palette with “pop!” is great!) Write me with your favorite color scheme resources and I will keep the link updated! Read on for my best additional photo shoot clothing tips as a photographer:
 

• Choose a room to display your pictures & go for colors already in that room– you will own custom art! so plan to display it! Your large canvas print & small framed images will increase interest in & the cohesive feel of your room; lovely! 
   

• Next, choose a location based on your clothing—or your clothing based on location— either works so start with an outfit or location you LOVE!  Forests or oceans work well to provide dominant colors in your color scheme; add an opposite on the color wheel to make it really interesting (pop!)

• In a group, solids that coordinate are easiest (men can wear muted plaids as solids) except:
• One person can wear a fun interesting pattern or bolder color. Little kids can / should provide that loud “pop” in shirts / dresses, all eyes will go to them. Or a man in an interesting shirt is ideal!!  A woman in a dress with a bold pattern that color coordinates is perfect, or pop the lipstick / nails!  

• In general, avoid whitest white and dark black—they lose definition.  But rules are made to be broken:
   

• Avoid logos, words, and pictures on clothes, they steal attention from your face & personality - (unless you want to feature the item).
   
• Faces reflect shirt color.  A brilliant red shirt makes you look... well, embarrassed :)
   
• Iron shirts—wrinkles show up!
   
• Add variety with shapes and textures—whether this is a group or individual shoot; ideas:
   

• Textures:  High contrast stitching or rips in jeans.  Flowing dresses! Belts with design.  Shoes: go crazy with rugged or fun, impractical shoes!

• More Texture Ideas:  Hair, let it flow! Sweaters. Scarves. Hair accessories! Rings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants. Leather. 
   

• Textures are used in Location: Rocks, moss, bricks, cement, graffiti, grass:
   

• Makeup is a girl’s ally, even if she isn’t used to it!  Makeup professionals will make you look natural for lights & lens.  A Bobbi Brown or Clinique counter appointment & a hair blowout will draw attention to hair & eyes and away from less flattering details!
   
• Add MORE interest with Props:  hats!, football, favorite book(s), glasses, toys for kids, interesting chair or swing, a pet dog, a little red wagon, fruit, flowers, a frame or writing, a musical instrument, a sketch pad, a car, a barn, a friend!
   

• Last tip: Definitely use clothes you prefer for your shoot, whether or not they align with the above photo shoot clothing tips :)
